monthly update

hey – welcome to your monthly woznation update.  that seems to be how often we’re posting, huh?  That might be the new norm. Things are busy, but good, over here.  I started my new job, and am still learning to balance work things and life things.  Phil was in Yuma for awhile but is back for a good long stretch. Wil is doing better at daycare and seems to like his new playmates.  I think Barney is the only one really living it up.  He now has the house to himself for 3 full days, with our dog walker coming to get him out on nice long runs when Im at work.  Life is good for that pup.  Here are a few pics from before I started work:

Oh and Phil posted some videos a few weeks ago, be sure to check out the little man in action.

Hi Ho Hi Ho

Things are a little nuts around woznation.  After a slew of phone interviews and a few all-day interviews, I found a great research statistician job at Hopkins.  Once I accepted, they gave me a whopping 3 weeks to find daycare and start the position!  So Ive been busting my ass to tie up all the loose ends before starting work this coming week.   Good thing I handle stress and change so well. Oh wait, I don’t.  But a steady diet of back rubs and beta-blockers are getting me through.

Found Daycare.  Finished CITI training (yeah you researchers know what Im talking about. Ugh). Found dog walker.  Bought appropriate clothing.  Cleaned house.  And Phil is away on a bachelor party vacation – so Ive been on Wilek duty 24/7.   As you can tell, ‘blogging’ isnt very high on the priority list.  I have barely remembered to take any pictures.   So for today – I am posting all the pictures I pulled off Phil’s phone last week.  Hopefully we can get some more videos up soon, too.  Wil is a lightening fast crawler and pulling himself up to standing.  He also feeds himself cheerios, hates things on his head, and loves the duck pond.  And hes 21 lbs!

Twenty Nine

This might have been my best birthday ever.  I just have a whole new appreciation for birthdays since having Wil.  Birth is just an amazing amazing event, with so many things having to go perfect for the end result. It kind of baffles me that it happens so often – yet Im surrounded with beautiful, happy, healthy people in my life. Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Im so very very lucky.

Yesterday was filled with a whole lot of cuddling, chatting with friends and family, and watching ‘The Help’  (which did not help my emotional state!) I think Phil was glad he was at work for my ‘love of life’ swell yesterday, haha – there was, perhaps, too much love happening around these parts for him. But a day of appreciation was exactly what I needed.  Especially as I start applying for jobs in the area. Ive had a few interviews and am close to making a decision. Im excited to get back to work but of course will miss time with my little buddy.  Here are some pics taken in the last few weeks:

Thanks again to everyone for a great birthday! Miss you all!

Lion Photos, Month 7

This is actually the first lion picture I took since the last lion post. But hes starting to slow down in his growth and the pictures are all starting to look the same anyway.  Infant growth is logarithmic, so hes past his time of fastest growth.  One thing the pictures dont seem to capture is his girth.  Hes quite formidable now.  Hes nearly 20 lbs and hes learn to throw things.  And hit things.  Im pretty sure Im going to have the next black eye in this household.

Lets see how far we’ve come:

4 weeks

4.5 months

my last lion picture, Dec 1st

Annnnnd, BOOM:

Jan 23rd, almost 7 months

Barney bombed.  I think the thing that grew the most was his hair.  I need to start styling it.  Maybe get some hair gel?  After all, he was born in Jersey.

Firsts

Well shortly after I wrote the post about him not having any teeth, they finally popped through!  We had a bad day and night, but they finally broke about a week ago and he is back to his happy self.  You still cant really see them, but I assure you they are there – and they are sharp little suckers!  He likes to bite our noses and thinks the word ‘Ouch’ is hilarious.  He had another first this past week, too – his first black eye.  Hes starting to pull up and reach for things, and he was doing this when he lost his hold and bonked his head on the coffee table.  There were tears but nothing barney couldnt cure.  Barney is, by far, Wilek’s favorite toy these days. Whenever we need a smile, we just head over to play with Barney.  Or I break out the camera – he is such a ham for the camera!  Im very lucky to have such a happy boy.

Here he is up on all fours – he can go from that position to sitting pretty easily these days but still isnt moving forward yet!  You can also see him starting to pull things down from the coffee table (and is foreshadowing to the black eye…)

He also loooves his crib.  Its actually hard to get him to nap in it during the day because he just likes playing in it.  The other day he fell asleep on my chest, so I walked him upstairs and laid him down in the crib asleep.  Soon after I went back upstairs to check on him and he was just sitting up and looking around.  I have no idea how long he actually slept.  He didnt make a peep when we woke up – just sat up and starting playing I guess!

Most days we hang out at home rotating toys, singing songs, looking out the window and playing the piano.  Hes pretty happy doing most anything.  We usually change activities when I get bored.  And when I get super bored?!  I do things like put him in barneys cage and takes pictures.  Mom of the Year?  I think so.

We hung out at the aquarium the other day.  Wil was finally really into it.  Well…for like 10 seconds at a time.  Especially the jelly fish.

Last, but not least, black eye and teeth:

Can you see ’em?!?! If you click on the picture to enlarge…and zoom-in..maybe you can kinda see them?  No?  Ok.  Ill take some more once they are really showing.  Happy last day of January everyone.  Bring on February!

Happy New Year

I hate it when I get so behind. and I know I dont have enough time to update everyone on everything that has happened since the last post, so I put it off, then woznation is hanging over my shoulder and it feels like a chore. and then more things happen and then i really dont have the time and it just compounds like that.  So im biting the bullet and writing a quick, sub-par post to ‘catch-up’ and will try to do better moving forward in 2012.

Here are the highlights – Wil is up on all fours, but still not crawling.  He has red little gums, but no teeth.  But hes sitting straight up for long periods of time and sleeping through the night! (FINNNNNAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLY).  At his 6th month visit he was in the 95th percentile for height, 75th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for head size.  (which is the opposite of when we was born?)  And Phil and I are not tall people.  So we’re pretty sure he’ll plateau around kindergarten.

Here are some pics (some swiped from Maggie and Wendy’s Facebook – Thanks guys!)

AK came to visit last weekend and we took Wil to the mall to get his picture taken with santa! I had to do this with AK because Phil is a big ol grinch and hates the mall at christmas time.  We had an awesome time and Wil posed like a pro.  We also got a mini christmas tree at our house!  All the ornaments were given to us by Phil’s mom.  She had an ornament for every year of phils life – and gave them all to us our first christmas as a couple.  The tree also sports some cascading ribbon – al a ‘nancy style’.  A christmas tree doesnt seem like a christmas tree without some cascading ribbon, am i right?

Its also the blogiversary!!  My first post was a year ago today! This is our 80th post.  Meaning we’re averaging a post about every 4.5 days.  Not too shabby.  Ive really enjoyed keeping in touch with everyone through the site.  Thanks for stopping by!

(1) Kentucky 72                            Indiana 73

I am not sure if anyone else watched the game but IU beat Kentucky. I am pretty sure Watford hit that game winning shot because it was Wilek’s first IU basketball game. He was dressed appropriately.

If you are interested we posted ~15 new Wilek videos. Goto Wilek Vids to check them out.

Lion Photos, Month 5

I have a giant man baby on my hands!  Actually, hes only in the 50th percentile.  But he’s just getting so big!  I love it though, the first few months of motherhood are rough.  Did you know that you have to do everything for these babies in the early months?  Then a magical thing happens…they start entertaining themselves!!  They get interested in things other than your boobs – and they are actually content to explore the world around them.  Its way more fun than soothing 24/7.  And him growing is a sign of this independence, which means a lot to me.  Now if only we could get him to sleep through the night…..*yawn*.

We left off at 11 weeks:

Week 11 (2.5 months)

Heres what Ive managed since then…and since i never take just one picture, Im going to show a few of every ‘series’:

13 weeks (3 months):

15 weeks (3.5 months):

17 weeks (4 months)

22 weeks (5 months….we’re probably going to once a month now….)

Week 1:

Week 1

At least hes tolerating the photo sessions more?
