September 2012 was full of trips to Bloomington, Nashville and D.C.  We first went back to bloomington for a good friends wedding.  Of course the only picture I come back with is this one:

You’re welcome.  It was a short Friday-Sunday trip, but we were so glad we could make it to see our friends Sarah and Collins get married!  Congrats guys!  Then we turned around and headed to Nashville for another wedding, but I have enough pictures to turn that into a post.  So stay turned.  We also went down to D.C. for a day to do a practice run for the Army 10-Miler we had coming up in October.  We couldn’t do an exact replica run since that course shut down many streets:

But we did run around the Mall and went up to see the white house! I also don’t have many pictures of the actual race since they didn’t allow cameras,  but we had a great time!  We found a baby sitter to come to our hotel at 7:00am on a sunday to watch wilek while phil and I went to partake in the festivities.  Phil had hurt his back a few days before the race, so he took it super easy….by running with me! haha.  I am the slowest runner ever.  But we both survived.  I made us take a walk break around mile 8, but otherwise ran/jogged the whole thing!  Go us!

On the weekend we did stay home in Baltimore, we went to the Zoo for the first time!  I didn’t snap any pictures of animals, because I’m an idiot, but I did get a few on the carousel, climbing in an old turtle shell and hanging out in a tunnel under water.

Wil has loved learning to walk and walks nearly 100% of the time now.  Every once in awhile he’ll get nervous with an incline or going down a hill and will go back on his butt or crawl.  But hes upright most of the time now!!

Barney say ‘Go Os’.

Phil traveled back to indiana for a good friends wedding, and I, unfortunately, had to stay and work due to unforgiving shortage of vacation days.  To turn a frown upside down, I decided to make the most of my time with Wilek and went to the farmers market, DBFA pool party, the aquarium, and library in 2 days time.  I was mom of the year, until he got sick from all the germs i exposed him to.  awesome.  Here were fun times before the cold hit:

We go to the farmers market fairly often.  So that wasnt new.  But the trip to the pool was his first ever.  We have done a few splash pools at Mimi and PopPops and Busia and DziaDzias, but this was a whole new ball game.  Similar to past experiences, when I first put him in the water, he screamed bloody murder. I thought the afternoon was done-for, but we kept with it in the splash pad and introduced him to some toys and he slowly got use to the water.

We finally made our way over to the big kid pool, which was actually much warmer, and he loved it!!!  Someone was nice enough to take a quick picture of us.  But there was also a professional photographer there, hired by the DBFA and I hope to order/buy some of the pictures she was taking, too.  Wil loves being thrown in the air and ‘jumping’ (read: falling) from the side of the pool, into the water.  It was such a fun day!!

We are yearly members of the aquarium, so on sunday afternoon while i was shopping we decided to hop into the aquarium!  I got a few videos that didnt really turn out, and here was one picture.  Hes definitely more into it now.  But we only stayed for 45 minutes due to nap time.

Mondays are my normal days off, and I try to attend “mother goose nursery rhymes’ at the library, where they read books and sing songs for ages 1 through 3.  Of course the one week I make it, its cancelled as they get ready for the school year.  Luckily, I was not the only mother to not know this, and there were plenty of kids to hang out with for an impromto play-date. (haha, wordpress tried to correct my ‘imprompto’ to ‘improper’.  I assure you it was a very civilized play-date.)

(Yes his shoes are too small.)  The next morning he woke up with a killer runny nose that is slowly making its way through our house.  The price we pay for fun!!

Hiking in Catoctin

I still have no idea how to pronounce ‘Catoctin’, but thats where we went hiking. Its where Camp David is located and is about 1.25 hours northwest of Baltimore.  In the past we have gone hiking close to Baltimore and stayed pretty much at sea level.  This past weekend I was in the mood for some views and boy did we get them.  The first trail we did was to Chimney Rock:

Did I get my view, or what?!  This trail rivaled my other favorite trail of all time; coincidentally called Chimney Tops.  Apparently I like rocks.

Its the ciiiiiiiiircle of liiiiife:

The second trail we did was to Cumberland Falls.  I was already exhausted from the ~5 miles round trip of Chimney Rock.  But I was bound and determined to show Wilek the waterfall.  So we set out on the 2.8 round trip. Aaaaand after 1.3 miles we came upon another paved trail-head to the actual waterfall, haha (basically, we could have just driven there and walked .1 miles instead of the additional 2.6 from where our car was parked.  Oh well.)  Since the place was easily accessible, it was packed so we didnt stay long.  We tried to get Wil to splash around in the creek bed, but he had nothing of it and kept lifting his feet up for Phil to hold him.

I managed to get one picture without a ton of people in it:

It was worth the trip, for sure.  I hope to make it back to this park in the fall!!

After our trip to Bloomington in early July, I had about 10 days to regroup before heading off to Florida to celebrate Shels upcoming nuptials.  I had a glorious 5 day vacation down in the Florida Keys.  Most of the pictures are not blog appropriate, but I threw in a sunset for you enjoyment. Other than that, we’ve been staying close to home – attempting to stay on top of work deadlines and piles of laundry.   We also had our second haircut in 3 months. It was already in his eyes – so we decided to go army style so we wouldnt have to go back so often.  He is kind of like a little drill sergeant now, always barking orders!

Memorial Day 2012

Over Memorial day 2012 we flew to Bloomington to meet up with my sister who was also visiting.  Its pretty rare to get the whole watkins family together, so we were really excited. We kept wil up way past his bed time in the airport, to ensure he’d sleep on the plane.  Though the hour leading up to the departure was a little tough – once we were in the air, he was out cold.  The way back was equally successful.  We were able to spend all of Saturday with my sister, Nate and Luke, along with the Phil, Maggie, and Andrew (Jessie was out of the country….we cant ALL ever be together, hah). Then Sunday we spent the day at the Wozniaks.  I managed to not take a single picture all weekend.  But I was able to swipe a few pictures from my sister and Phil took a few videos which he will upload soon.

Playing at the park:

Play room trampoline at Mimi and PopPop’s:

Playing with water and bubbles:

Family picture:  Will someone with some photoshop skills please shop Jessie into that open space behind Mom and Maggie?  Thanks.

We will have to steal some pictures from Char for the 2nd half of our memorial day weekend at the Wozniaks.  I think she took a few.

UPDATE!  Char sent over some photos.  Here are some highlights from Sunday!

Yay for nice weather, good food, and fun times in BTown.

Watkins Visit

Mimi and PopPop came to visit at the end of April!  The whole week leading up to their visit we had beautiful warm weather, but of course as soon as they got here it turned cold and windy.  We did not let that deter us from seeing the Orioles at Camden yards though!   My dad has always been an Orioles fan, so it’s quite serendipitous that Phil and I moved to Baltimore.  Funny enough, we didnt go to any games last July because it was like 105 degrees.  So we werent going to let 50 degree weather stop us. We bundled up and headed to the park!

It was a 7pm game, which is right before Wilek’s bedtime, so we had him in his jammies ready for sleep, haha.  He found some seats away from the drunk ‘college night’ crowd.  He watched a little of the game with Mimi and PopPop before dozing off.

Unfortunately the Os lost.  But one of the aforementioned drunk college kids ran on the field in the 7th inning before being tackled by the home plate umpire.  That was exciting?

The next day, I showed everyone my new work place.  We walked around the Hopkins medical campus and showed them my office. We also drove by daycare (in the old Natty Boh brewery building),  hung around the apartment, went to the basilica downtown and had a nice dinner out.

On our last day, the weather was finally nice! We drove down Annapolis maryland to check out their cute downtown, historical buildings, and naval academy.

Wilek was tuckered out by the end of the weekend.  A good time was had by all.  Thanks for coming Mom and Dad!

First Hair Cut!

Oh man, I cant get over how freaking cute this is.  He was trooper for most of it. But got to be majorly squirmy by the end and we basically had to hold him down so the lady could get his bangs.

We tipped her lots of dollars.  And he looks like Moe of the 3 stooges (alternatively, I think he looks like Andrew, circa 1992 bowl cut?  Watkins Family? Am I right?).

He looks like such a grown-up boy to me now.  I love it.  He is sooooo much fun these days!!

So wil started daycare my 2nd week of work since Char was here to watch him my first week.  He was there for 2.5 days before getting sick.  I heard this might happen and work was actually very cool with me calling in and working from home given it was only my 7th day on the job.  However, this sickness lasted for 10 freakin’ days.  It was not pretty around this house, my friends.  And work seemed less cool by the following week but luckily, they didnt fire me.  I have since been working my butt off to make up for all the missed hours and I think I finally have a handle on things. Wil was on the mend by Easter and Phil was home from Yuma, so we spent a nice weekend around Baltimore. Including making an Os game on opening weekend!

Wil has also past the 9 month mark!  He’s officially been outside of me longer than he’s been inside of me.  I think he has found the outside world most acceptable.  He now has solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  His favorite foods are butternut squash, apple, carrots, yogurt, cereal, and bites of whatever we are eating.  He had some killer BBQ pork this afternoon. And was not a fan of lettuce.  Smart man. As a reminder, here was a little over 9 months ago:

We’ve come a long way!
